I just want to share my recent experience with my students with you which moved me to tears.

Last week, August 31, Tuesday, for our poem appreciation / speech choir, I gave my 46 kids Michael's piece -- "Planet Earth". It's quite a difficult piece, all those difficult words to pronounce and used as idioms, meanings to be read between the lines... I felt like my students were reading something which they couldn't fully grasp. And truth was, they were!

But I wanted to share Michael's beautiful work with these kids because the message is just so timely. It's one of his masterpieces which was written with a "conscience". So we tackled it slowly... digged into each difficult word... and to be honest, I'm not sure if the whole piece was fully understood until now. And then last Friday, I brought my copy of Michael's voice reading his own poem. The kids were still not settled, talking and all... but the moment I played it and his voice filled the classroom, there was a complete silence which I have never experienced with them before. The bulliest among them all stood up among others to go near my little "sound box", mouth agape... they were all hushed and looked like they thought that was most beautiful voice they have ever heard all of their young lives! I was amazed! I didn't expect them to react that way. My goodness, it's as if an angel has spoken...

But the best thing that happened was that at the end of Michael's reading, they were still hushed, looked at one another then they were clapping! Like they've just watched a very awesome concert or movie! Everyone was telling me : "Teacher, I didn't know Michael could speak like that, it's very beautiful!", "He narrated that so beautifully"! and the like. I just told them, that was just one of the things that he could do, I think when God showered the earth with talents, Michael was there so early with his umbrella turned upside down :)

Then they were asking me to play it over and over again, and they read with him, while I was there, in awe of what just happened, teary eyed...

Then I sent a SMS to Becky (marchaelic08) who told me I should share it with you :) I was so inspired and happy that day. Michael never ceases to fail even beyond life. He left so many beautiful things which we can make use of to help shape the young, the children of this world.

Thank you for reading :) Have a nice day!

Grace :)
