INTERVIU MICHAEL JACKSON TV GUIDE ÎN PERIOADA ,,INVINCIBLE,,

TV GUIDE: Această ediţie TV este un omagiu adus carierei tale strălucite. Îţi aminteşti când ai păşit pentru prima oară pe o scenă?
MJ: Aveam 5 ani. S-a întâmplat în cadrul unui recital la şcoală, o serbare obişnuită. Trebuia să purtăm tricouri albe şi pantalonaşi scurţi. Îmi amintesc cum m-au anunţat educatoarele:
-Micuţul Michael Jackson vă va cânta ,,Climb every mountain,, !
Îmi amintesc ropotul de aplauze. Când am terminat numărul artistic, m-am aşezat pe scaunul meu obişnuit şi bunicul, alături de mama, plângea continuu. Ei mi-au spus:
-Nu ne vine să credem ce voce frumoasă ai.
Asta e prima mea amintire.
TV Guide: E o situaţie rară pentru tine că ne acorzi un interviu,
MJ: Am refuzat multe oferte ale jurnaliştilor pentru că nu-mi place să mă afişez continuu la TV, vorbind şi tăifăsund. Mă simt jenat. Chiar şi când am realizat un spectacol televizat, îl voi urmări mereu doi ani mai târziu, nu mai devreme pentru că mereu sunt dezamăgit de ceva. Mă perfecţionez permanent.
TV Guide: Concerte din 2001 de la Madison au fost susţinute alături de mari performeri. De aceste show-uri nu poţi fi dezamăgit.
MJ: Al doilea show a fost bun. Primul însă a fost oribil deoarece, tehnic vorbind, au fost multe întreruperi şi pauze între cântece. Foarte dificil. Publicul aştepta, aştepta, aştepta şi iar aştepta.
TV Guide: Cum te simţi când dansezi pe scenă?
MJ: Sunt sclavul ritmului. Trec direct prin moment, prin clipă. Trebuie să reacţionez aşa, cu patimă, dacă în acel moment gândesc, sunt un om mort. A obţine o performanţă bună nu presupune gândit, ci simţit.

Nu mă deranjează dacă ei consideră că e bine să preia anumite accente artistice de la mine. Eu consider acest lucru un compliment. Toată lumea care vrea să facă performanţă trebuie să înveţe tehnica reală de la un mastru. Pentru mine, maeştrii au fost James Brown, Sammy Davis Junior, Jackie Wilson, Fred Astaire, Gene Kelly.
TV Guide: De curând am observat că îl implici în proiectele tale şi pe Marlon Brando. Cum ai reuşit să-l convingi?
MJ: Brando este un bun prieten de-al meu. Îl ştiu de 20 de ani. Mă vizitează foarte des. Îi place să se joace cu copiii mei. Eu la rându-mi mă joc cu nepoţii lui. Amndoi urmărim filme, e distractiv.
TV Guide: Cu cine îţi mai petreci timpul liber?
MJ: Cu Elizabeth Taylor, Marlon Brando, Gregory Peck, prieteni foarte apropiaţi. Chiar dacă sunt mai tineri decât mine sau mai în vârstă, chiar dacă e incompatibilitate de generaţie, pe mine nu mă deranjează. Nu prea am avut un contact social serios cu o persoană de vârsta mea. Acest lucru îşi are originile sale, cred că din copilărie, atunci obişnuiam să merg în cluburi, încă de la 5 ani. Am văzut oameni îndopaţi cu alcool, oameni bătându-se. Dacă vreo persoană îmi spune: ,,Hei, să mergem la un club!,, , eu răspund: ,,Nuuuu, nici nu mă gândesc!,, Dacă merg, nu mai e o petrecere pentru mine, prea multe fotografii şi autografe.
TV Guide: Cum a fost la petrecerea de după concertul aniversar de la localul ,,Tavern on the Green,, ?
MJ: A fost destul de rău. Toţi se îmbulzeau în mine, nu puteam respira de aglomeraţie.
TV Guide: Ai leşinat?
MJ: Eeiii, da, asta e o ştire de tabloid, nuuuu, e o rumoare de dragul senzaţionalului, presa a inventat ştirea, ca de obicei, presa iubeşte să strice reputaţii.
TV Guide: Dar ce s-a întâmplat?
MJ: Nimic, Nu am leşinat. Nici măcar pe aproape. Presa a inventat asta ca de obicei. (Îndreptându-se blând spre Paris, care se furişa pe sub masă) Paris, nu poţi face gălăgie. Nu poţi sări pe masă. Reporterii înregistrează şi se vor auzi zgomote.
Tv Guide: La concertul tău aniversar a cântat şi Liza Minelli. Voi doi se pare că sundeţi destul de apropiaţi.
MJ: Vorbesc cu Liza în fiecare săptămână. Venim de pe aceeaşi planetă. Ca în cazul lui Elizabeth.
TV Guide: De pe ce planetă?
MJ: Se cheamă Anomalii Capricioase din marea spaţială. (râde) Nu ştiu, nu pot să o numesc. Cred că e în spatele sistemului nostru solar. Dar e adevărat, oamenii care au trăit ca puşti-minune au ceva în comun. Eşti drăguţ, micuţ, publicul te iubeşte, păşeşti spre adolescenţă, publicul nu te mai acceptă. Foarte puţini reuşesc să treacă la statutul de vedetă adultă. Mulţi devin auto-distructivi. E foarte trist fenomenul.
TV Guide: Tu cum te păzeşti de auto-distrugere?
MJ: Evadez în religie.
TV Guide: Încă eşti un membru al cultului Martorii lui Iehova?
MJ: Da, în religia aceasta noi avem un lucru inovativ. 90 de ore pe lună. Nu mai fac asta acum pentru că sunt foarte ocupat. Mergi din uşă în uşă. Port un pardesiu, ochelari, mustaţă, dinşi falşi, mă deghizez, ca un Afro, ciocănesc din uşă în uşă şi spun: ,,Sunt de la martorii lui Iehova.,,
Tv Guide: Concertul s-a legat şi de promovarea albumului tău ,,Invincible,,? Este aceasta o revenire?
MJ: Nu aş spune revenire. Fac un album complet nou la fiecare 4 ani. A fost un hiat, pauză publică pentru a lucra la album. Am scris, am compus, nu m-am lăsat de muzică.
TV Guide: Albumul include invitaţi speciali ca Jay-Z. E greu să-mi imaginez că lucrezi cu Jay-Z, imaginea lui ca artist diferă mult de a ta.
MJ: A fost aşa de drăguţ cu mine. Auzi toate poveştile nebuneşti despre unele vedete, inclusiv despre rapperi, dar el e gentil, politicos, un gentleman perfect.
TV Guide: Care e masajul piesei ,,Unbreakable,, , prima piesă de pe album?
MJ: Că sunt invincibil, am trecut prin toate. Nu mă poţi decepţiona, nu mă poţi răni. Nu mă poţi doborî. (Prince a vărsat limonada pe măsuţa de cafea.) Vai, ce zgomot faci! Trebuie să fii drăguţ şi tăcut.
TV Guide: Eşti cunoscut ca un excentric. Are de a face şi viaţa ta desfăşurată aproape integral în lumina reflectoarelor?
MJ (zâmbind rezervat): Depinde despre ce tip de excentricităţi vorbeşti.
TV Guide: Oamenii te numesc Wacko Jacko.
MJ: Da, ce să fac acum? Nu e drăguţ într-adevăr. Fac asta pentru că sunt geloşi. Nu am făcut absolut nimic. Merg prin spitale şi orfelinate. Cumpăr bajage imense cu jucării. Cheltuiesc milioane de dolari pe aceste jucării? Ce e ciudat în asta? De acest aspect s-au legat ultima oară!
TV Guide: Din cauza portretului caricaturizat de presă, oamenii se întreabă: ,, e ciudat Michael?,, .
MJ(exasperat) : Am susţinut interviul cu Oprah, cu Diane Sawyer, oamenii m-au văzut, presa e invidioasă, e unul dintre lucrurile cu care încă mă lupt.
TV Guide: Cum te lupţi?
MJ: Transform totul în energie pozitivă. Scriu despre frustrările mele, e un fel de a mă exprima. Devine o parte din mine, parte a creaţiei mele. Încerc să mă stăpânesc, să nu mă afecteze. Aş lua-o razna sincer.
TV Guide: Ultimul tău clip ,,You rock my world,, este un videoclip de 15 minute, un scurt film practic, cum te-ai gândit la tematica gangster?
MJ: Nu ştiu, aşa mi-a venit. În Cuba se situează clipul. Într-o seară fierbinte de vară. Un club prin împrejurimi, povestea şi tot ce decurge. Sper ca MTV-ul să difuzeze varianta lungă a filmului, nu-mi place versiunea scurtă, nu e destul entertainment.
TV Guide: Cum eşti implicat în producerea unui videoclip?
MJ: Când spui Michael Jackson, lumea se gândeşte la un entartainer. Nu se gândeşte că eu scriu cântece, nu mă laud deloc, dar o piesă necesită foarte mult efort, scriu versuri, compun linia melodică, ideea videoclipului. Nu cred că tinerii artişti sunt conştienţi de toată munca ce trebuie depusă la o singură piesă, cred că performanţele mele le pot fi model.
TV Guide: Când ai făcut videoclipul, te-ai gândit: ,,Vreau să fie la fel de bun ca Thriller-ul?,,
MJ: Nuuuu, ştiu că nu am timp să execut aşa ceva, la standardul acela. Vor veni nişte filmuleţe mai bune.
TV Guide: Îi laşi pe copiii tăi să urmărească postul MTV?
MJ: La o anumită vârstă o să-i las, dar acum nu. Când vor avea 15 sau 16 ani.
TV Guide: Te uţi la TV?
MJ: Da, îmi place PBS, Discovery, The Simpsons, Sesame Street, aş urmări ore întregi aşa ceva. Show-ul meu preferat este Malcolm în the Middle. Îmi aminteşte de formatul pe care l-am exersat şi eu în copilărie.
TV Guide: Cu care caracter relaţionezi tu mai bine?
MJ: Malcolm. Pentru că încearcă să se integreze în societate şi nu reuşeşte, ca E.T. sau ca Bambi, nu se poate plia la cerinţele oamenilor. Mă simt ca aceste personake uneori. Când sunt în afara scenei, mă simt ciudat, ca şi cum lumea asta nu ar fi şi pentru mine. Parcă nu e locul meu.
TV Guide: Ce copil îţi place mai mult?
MJ: Pe amândoi îi iubesc, dar în moduri diferite. Prince de exemplu te cicăleşte până te exasperează, ai vrea să te răzbuni pe părul lui la un moment dat sau pe urechile lui. Dar nu mă enervez, aşa eram şi eu, o cicăleam pe Janet.
TV Guide: Dar Paris?
MJ: Ea e dura.
TV Guide: Dar mama lor, Debbie Rowe?
MJ: Am auzit că e bine, deci e bine. Paris e puternică precum Debbie.
TV Guide: Referitor la starea ta financiară, lumea spune că eşti falit şi că acesta e motivul pentru care biletele la concert au fost atât de scumpe.
MJ: T-A-B-L-O-I-D-E. Lucruri inventate. Trebuie să găsească ceva pentru a vinde.
TV Guide: Soarta planetei în astfel de momente este foarte delicată. Erai în New York cu copiii la momentul atentatului, nu?
MJ: Da, am primit un telefon în care un priten mă anunţa că America e atacată. Nu l-a crezut, am dat la ştiri şi nu mi-a venit să cred. Am ţipat până în hol: ,,Toată lumea îmbrăcarea, plecăm. ,, Ne-am urcat în maşină şi am pornit spre New Jersey. Departe de oraş.
TV Guide: Atacurile teroriste din 2001 te-au marcat, ai compus un imn de caritate cu multe vedete de talie internaţională, un proiect grandios de salvare a lumii, conform mesajului tău veşnic ,,Heal the World,, .
MJ: M-am săturat de notorietatea acestor atacuri, nu ştiu dacă buletinele de ştiri le-au difuzat de prea multe ori, dar ştiu că toată lumea a trecut de la frică, la ură, la nervozitate, până la răzbunare. Cred că media a crescut nivelul de frustare generală , a răsucit cuţitul în rană.
TV Guide: Am auzit că ai de gând că vorbeşti cu preşedintele Bush despre cântec şi profiturile sale.
MJ: Am vorbit cu Bush senior. De fapt, am primit un telefon de la oamenii lui care mi-au transmis un masaj optimist, mi-au comunicat că preşedintele e mândru de acţiunea mea şi că mă consideră un erou internaţional.
TV Guide: Da, misiunea ta e să salvezi oameni.
MJ: Tot timpul am făcut asta. Acum toţi caută diverse cântece pe tematica vindecării lumii, publicul vrea acum să asculte melodii liniştitoare şi cu mesaj puternic caritabil, care să-i ajute să lupte cu situaţia de azi. Dar eu am promovat acest tip de cântec pe parcursul carierei mele, tot timpul, cântece precum: ,,Heal the World,, , ,,We are the World,, , ,,Will you be there,, , ,,Man in the mirror,, , despre planetă, cântece despre Pământ. Nimeni nu s-a mai gândit să apeleze la acest mesaj, pentru că artiştii de azi nu mai văd o realitate muzicală: nu totul trebuie să fie comercial. Eu m-am gândit la asta şi am lansat tot timpul cântece din această nişă artistică. Asta e inima mea. Visul meu mare e să aduc o zi internaţională a copilului. În această zi, copiii să petreacă timp cu părinţii lor, să se refacă relaţia de familie, destrămată în zilele noastre.
TV Guide: Copiii tăi călătoresc mereu cu tine?
MJ: Oriunde aş merge, da.
TV Guide: Ce se va întâmpla când vor începe şcoala şi nu vor mai putea călători cu tine? Vor avea teme, cursuri, colegi, vor fi legaţi de un anume loc.
MJ: Nu o să meargă la o şcoală publică. Vreau să creez o şcoală virtuală sau o sală de clasă veritabilă la Neverland.
TV Guide: Vor merge la şcoală pe cale online?
MJ: Altfel cum? Este Prince Michael Jackson. Este Paris Katherine Michael Jackson. Ar fi prea dificil.
TV Guide: De ce crezi că iubeşti atât de mult copiii?
MJ: Da, îţi voi spune exact de unde vine pasiunea mea. Eu nu am avut copilărie. Când sunt în suferinţă, eu le simt durerea. Când copiii sunt disperaţi, le simt disperarea. Mă implic în problemele copiilor de azi. Dacă toţi copiii ar relaţiona cu părinţii, ar ieşi uneori în parc, ar fi o comunicare bună, lumea ar fi altfel. Dacă aş fi petrecut o zi tandră cu tatăl meu, ar fi o mare diferenţă în relaţia noastră actuală. L-aş percepe altfel. O zi de felul acesta şi ar fi schimbat totul între mine şi tatăl meu.
TV Guide: Care e relaţia ta cu Joseph Jackson?
MJ: Mai bună acum. E o persoană mai bună astăzi. S-a schimbat de când are nepoţi. Are mulţi, mulţi nepoţi, cam vreo 13, dacă nu mai mulţi.
TV Guide: Ce crede tatăl tău despre concertul de la Madison? A fost acolo?
MJ: A fost la spectacol. Dar tatăl meu e altfel, dacă ai făcut un spectacol bun, nu te aştepta să te laude, va zice doar: ,,Bun spectacol!,, . Nu va spune: ,,Vaim a fost foarte frumos, extraordinar.,, Nu ştie cum să-şi arate afecţiunea. (Michael se uită la Prince care are o gumă de mestecat lipită pe nas şi umblă prin camera redacţiei unde e intervievat Michael, sporovăind şi jucându-se cu diverşi reporteri)
MJ: (cu un ton dulce) Prince, şşşşş! Mi-ai promis că ai să fii tăcut, mai ştii?
TV Guide: Ce altceva mai vrei să faci cu cariera ta? În afară de muzică.
MJ: Iubesc filmele. Vreau să regizez filme în viitor şi să devin actor. Cred că filmul este o expresie artistică foarte puternică. Vreau să fac un film cu Liza Minnelli. Plănuim un film împreună. Un film despre doi entertaineri care încearcă să reuşească în industria aceasta dură, ei sunt împiedicaţi de multe obstacole, se zbat din răsputeri. Bineînţeles, cu numere inedite de dans. NU glumesc. Simt filmul ăsta aici. (Arată spre inimă. Între timp, Prince se plimbă prin cameră şi se aşază pe piciorul lui Michael, Paris gângureşte, în timp ce Michael îi trece mâna prin păr.)
TV Guide: Michael Jackson tată. O imagine inedită. Eşti un tată bun?
MJ: Încerc din răsputeri. Încerc să-i fac să se dsitreze. Într-un an, m-am îmbrăcat ca un clovn, cu tot dichisul, nasul roşu, faţa pictată. Le-am oferit bomboane şi prăjituri.
Prince: Şi îngheţată.
MJ: Şi îngheţată!

CD: You are without doubt the greatest entertainer that ever lived. Looking back did you ever think you would be the king of pop?

MJ: (laughter).. Wow.. Thank you so much... That's wonderful of you to say. I don't think I ever really had a grip on what we did until thriller. When I was a child I didn't understand it all. Joseph would give us checks each week from Barry and I was ten, eleven years old and had hundreds of thousands of dollars handed to me each week and all I wanted was a friend to play ball with and a pack of bubblegum. I can really tell you with all honesty that when I was younger I wanted to stop and just be a child with the astonishment of the world.

CD: You say that it came to life for you with Thriller. What do you mean by that?

MJ: A lot of people don't know this but thriller was mine. I had it in my head from the days of being with my brothers playing clubs at two or three in the morning. Because I could never play with children or join a baseball team I would stay up late into the night and write poems and stories. I remember I would fantasize about what I wrote and I guess a lot of what came out was my dreams of what I really wanted. I kept everything I ever wrote and when I was making thriller I took some of what I composed and adapted it into the album of which I'm very proud of. Because thriller was my own creativity, it made me really fall in love with the music because for the first time I was able to express myself and release all these emotions and if you listen to the album and i mean really listen you can hear that I wrote most of those songs from the soul.

CD: Michael you were the king of the stage since day one. You didn't have to work at it, you had it and gave it to the world. Do you have any regrets?

MJ: Again hank you for such kinds words. That's wonderful. I was talking with one of my dear friends the other day and we were I guess reflecting on the past and I think if I could have changed anything it would have been the chance to be a child for just a little while. I remember going to and from the studios and seeing children play and how all i wanted was to be one of them. I would have traded anything in the world to change places with them just for the day

CD: Michael you've lived your whole life in the press. Everything from the elephant man bones to having alien babies. How do you cope with it all?

MJ: (laughter).. The elephant bones was one of the top ten. I've always said the bigger the star the bigger the target and by no means am I saying that I'm better than anyone else but because of the way I live and choose to live and what I've accomplished the press for the most part feel they can make anything up and as long as it has my name on it, it will sale.. All I can say is don't by that trash. That's all it is, trash and what i want people and my fans to know is when you buy that junk you're putting money in their pockets and it hurts me. I'm a human being, not a freak show or Wacko Jackson, just a man trying to raise his children and live in peace.

CD: Michael how has your children changed you?

MJ: (deep sigh).. Oh wow.. Everything.. Everything has changed. I've always wanted children and I'm so blessed by the lord to have that kind of love in my life and I will do anything and everything I can to make my children lovers of the world and not spoiled brats with the silver spoon. I want them to see the world with wonderment and not be afraid and to have goals and to live life at its fullest and with each step they take I see that in them and I wake up for them and go on for them. For the first time in my life, all of this has a purpose and it's my children. The hell, the pain, the loneliness was leading to them all along.

CD: Let's talk about the 90's run. You had huge success in that decade but the press down played it. You sold millions of albums, had huge hits and I'm wondering if that's why you slowed down with putting out more music?

MJ: Without question. I was so irritated the media said those albums were utter failures. They sold millions of copies like you said and had massive air play and it still wasn't good enough. They wanted to focus on other things and I think we know what those are without having to indulge but the point being it goes back to making news out of nothing when I gave them so much to make news from that was true and honest like selling 7 or 8 million copies, debuting at number 1, I could go on and on but it's the same Ol' story.. If Michael does it, let's burn it into something else.

CD: Do you have plans for new music or maybe a tour?

MJ: Well I'm going to tell you something you may not believe..(laughter). . I have several hundred songs already laid down that I go back to when I want to release a new compilation. When I'm in the studio I sing until I can't sing anymore because I write all the time. I get beats and rhythms and work on new dance steps all the time but people don't see that side of me. I do want to do a new album but it has to be right. I want it to be bigger than thriller and I know I can do it. We're talking about some concerts but right now that's still private information but we're talking and it's coming.

CD: That my friend will be the biggest show in the world.. I can't wait.. I remember I was just a young DJ when you played arrowhead back on 84 or 85. How much work goes into a new album or concert tour?

MJ: (laughter).. Kansas City right....

CD: Yea.. Where the chiefs play...

MJ: (With excitement) Yea.. Yea.. I remember that.. I had Kansas City ribs for the first time and made Joseph buy me four or five racks to eat on the plane. (laughter) It's really a lot of work. I'm not one to say let's do a tour and hire someone to put it all together regardless if it's just on MTV, with my brothers or a world tour. I develop every detail and it takes years. That's why I don't do it all the time (laughter)

CD: Speaking of MTV.. How does it make you feel knowing you are the one.. The only one.. Who broke down the barriers and made it into what it is today?

MJ: They say imitation is one of the biggest form of flattery and some of them just can't do it.. (laughter) Chuck don't you air that.. People will get mad at me.. (laughter) I was just kidding.... I do consider that one of the biggest achievements I've done and I'm so proud of those artist that come in my footsteps and take it into a new direction. I often wonder what music would be if it wasn't for thriller. I know what it did to the world and to music and sometimes i just wonder how different it would have been without it.

CD:Michael, in all the interviews I've ever heard or read you always go back to thriller.. In my opinion you've had so many great works of art.. Not music but art.. So why do you use thriller as the example?

MJ: That's a great question chuck.. Wow.. Well I guess because it was mine. It was the first time I had complete control from start to end and it allowed me to bring everything that was buzzing in my head to life.. (laughter) now people will think I hear voices (laughter) be quit I'm talking (laughter).. Sorry I get carried away sometimes.. It's my Genesis. It's the start of what I consider the career of Michael Jackson. The others before it, I'm very proud of but it had other hand prints on it when thriller was mine and it paved the way for what my music would be. It's like a road map and I've followed it every beat from then until now.

CD:That is so cool... I've read what your favorite song is and what you like to listen to but what is your favorite Michael Jackson song?

MJ: Good grief.. This is like final jeopardy..Do the questions get harder as we go (laughter)... I have many that are special to me. Each song represents something so special in my life from charity work I do to love to relationships to peace in the world so I can't pin down one because each one has come from my soul.. Not just pen and paper with a lyric that rhymes...

CD: Let's talk a minute about charity. You have a Guinness World Record for supporting the most charities from the entertainment world.

MJ: Yea.. It's pretty neat.. My children told me that were going to get one for eating the most fried chicken (laughter).. My dear mother instilled in me very young to give back and as I grew in God I knew what I had to do as a believer in Christ. I hate to see suffering, I hate to see people in need and I feel God gave me a gift and I have to use it responsibly by giving back and I'll do it until I have pennies left or the good lord calls me home.

CD: You're not only like that with charity but also with your fans?

MJ: I love my fans.. I mean I really love them and if I could meet every one of them I would. I watch television and see shows that follow other celebrities and how they get so mad about fans wanting to say hi or get an autograph.. They made me.. So if I can give them two minutes of my time and a friendly hello it's well worth it. I've lived my life by the fans and I'll die by the fans.

CD: Michael give me a typical day in your life?

MJ: Well.. It's very boring.. (laughter).. After i visit with the aliens (laughter) don't air that..I can see them writing that story now.... (laughter) ...I start the day around 6:30 or 7.. Take a shower, get my children up and we have breakfast... I fix them what they want and then I'll have a meeting or read while the children play and then it's about lunch time and we eat and spend the afternoon maybe playing a game or watching TV or a video and i get them ready for dinner and at night we might stay up late to go shopping or something fun for the children. I tuck them in, read them a story, and then I spend the rest of the night catching up on mail and stuff like that. Just a typical dad.

CD: Finally Michael.. What is one thing you want the world to know about you?

MJ: Well.. For one don't read everything you believe (laughter) .. I just want my fans to know that I'm not done.. I haven't thrown in the towel and I'm coming back bigger than ever before... I owe it to them, I owe it to myself and I owe it to my children. I want them to see what their daddy can do, not read about what he was and had to put up with 20 years from now.
